"13 Reasons Why" is a popular Netflix series based on a book for young adults. The content covers teen suicide. Although it is a fictitious story and meant to be a cautionary tale about the negative impact of suicide, some teens were negatively affected. Season 2 airs this weekend.

Our Mental Wellness Team here at Val Verde Regional Medical Center felt it was important to share some tools with the community. If you click on the links below, you will get some information on talking to your teen about the show and about suicide.

The information here is to help you support your teen in processing the information presented in the show in a more positive way. If your child is interested in watching “13 Reasons Why,” watch with them. Please, talk to your kids about this issue. Don’t make the mistake of assuming your child would never consider suicide. It could save their lives or the lives of their friends. Share this information with as many people as you can. Thank you!
