The HOPE Cancer Resource Room at Val Verde Regional Medical Center offers support, assistance and information to members of the community who are dealing with cancer. Stacey Covarrubias, Cancer Navigator and her team of volunteers work tirelessly to help and to educate the community. They offer assistance with gas for frequent oncological trips to San Antonio, lodging, wigs, prosthetics and much more. “It is so important for people to know what resources are available to them when they or a loved one are coping with cancer,” says Covarrubias, “We are here to help.”

In the month of October, Del Rio’s Sirloin Stockade decided to help as well. “The crew was very enthused about it,” says Operating Partner Manager Don Beeson, “nearly everyone has relatives or friends who have been affected by cancer.” To support cancer related services for the community, Sirloin Stockade collected donations from patrons who rounded up their bills and donated the money to the HOPE Cancer Resource Room. On October 29th, they held an event at the restaurant and donated 10% of their profits for the day. Mary Pierce, Volunteer, served as hostess on this day. “I loved it,” she says, “I pinned pink ribbons on everyone.” The total amount generated and donated was $812.25. Both Covarrubias and Pierce were delighted and grateful for the generous donation. “Every cent will go directly to help someone in our community,” says Covarrubias.
