TITLE: Val Verde Regional Medical Center Welcomes Chief Financial Officer, Infection Control Director and Risk Director

Val Verde Regional Medical Center would like to welcome San Juana Garza as their new Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Garza comes with an extensive financial background which includes executive leadership and revenue cycle management within healthcare organizations in Florida, New Mexico and Texas. Ms. Garza developed and implemented a recovery action plan that doubled earnings for the institution in one of her past positions.

Ms. Garza completes Val Verde Regional Medical Center’s senior leadership team which includes Chief Executive Officer Xochy Hurtado, Chief Operating Officer Rhonda Crawford, Chief Nursing Officer Linder Rittermeyer, and Vice President of Human Resources Carlos Torres. Ms. Garza’s ability to collaborate with all members of the organization to achieve business and financial objectives will prove to be a valuable asset to the hospital.

Also coming on board is Dr. Owen Simwale who has a strong background in infectious diseases, hospital epidemiology, study design, infection prevention, patient safety, global health and public health research. As the new Director of Infection Control his focus will be infection prevention and implementing change management strategies through education. His goal is to continue to achieve quality outcomes and exceed national benchmarks. He will work towards risk reduction and assisting directors in providing consistent high-quality, patient focused services.

Risk management also got a new director at Val Verde Regional Medical Center. Rosa Montes Iturriaga is the new Risk Director. She comes to Val Verde Regional Medical Center with over 20 years’ experience working at two of the Texas Medical Center’s largest hospital systems with over 1,000 beds each. Her expertise spans across accreditation, patient safety, risk management, performance improvement and patient relations.

Patient safety is key to the success of any hospital as well as providing a positive hospital experience for patients and their families. Ms. Montes has a proven track record in improving all aspects of patient safety. She can determine risks, evaluate safety issues and create a successful plan to address any issues which are uncovered. She has also developed activities to assess and plan organization compliance.

Val Verde Regional Medical Center is pleased to have all three of these highly qualified individuals on board and looks forward to working with them to continue providing the community with health care services.
