Friends of Hospice Receives Donation from St. James Episcopal School First Graders
Monday morning, a group of first graders came to Val Verde Regional Medical Center. They and their teacher, Mrs. Osteen, had raised almost $600.00 for VVRMC’s Hospice program and are providing furniture to upgrade the Hospice Family Room at the hospital. “Every year we do a community service project,” said Mrs. Osteen, “my father was on hospice for seven months. Our whole family benefitted from the services offered so we chose hospice.”
VVRMC’s Hospice program provides comfort and support to terminally ill patients and their families. Hospice care approaches death as a normal process and helps patients to manage pain and other symptoms allowing them to live as fully and comfortably as possible. The first grade class raised the money and solicited a donation of furniture to refurbish the Hospice Family Room. VVRMC CEO, Xochy Hurtado was overwhelmed with the support being shown. Friends of Hospice raises funds to support VVRMC’s Hospice Program. A lot of the funds come from the Bargain Box, a thrift store located at 110 Greenwood right off Main Street. “Friends of Hospice are passionate about giving back to the community. The work they do is amazing,” she said, “We are the only hospice in the area providing care to the unfunded. These funds will help a lot and we are proud of these youngsters and very grateful for all their dedication.” For more information about the Bargain Box, call 830-775-9368.
