May 2022 Election Notice (H.B. 305)

The Texas State Legislature passed House Bill 305 on June 14, 2019 and becomes effective on September 1, 2019. The bill requires that a political subdivision, with the authority to impose a tax that at any time on or after January 1, 2019, maintained a publicly accessible Internet website, shall include certain information, including information regarding upcoming elections, on that web site pursuant to the effective date.

The Val Verde County Hospital District will be having an election on May 7, 2022, for four (4) open seats.

Upcoming open seats are as follows:

(2)-At-Large, (1)-Pct. 1, and (1)-Pct.2 to be elected May 7, 2020, to be held in Del Rio, Texas.

In order to gain a place on the May 7, 2022, ballot for the Val Verde County Hospital District, At-Large Place, Pct. 1, Pct. 2, prospective candidates must file a completed application prior to February 18, 2022.

January 1 – First day to apply for ballot by mail
January 19 – FIRST DAY for filing applications for place on general election ballot; first day for write-in candidate to submit declaration
February 18 – LAST DAY for filing application for place on ballot for election; must be received in Val Verde Regional Medical Center in Administration by 5:00 p.m.
February 22 – Last day for filing as a write-in candidate in election
April 7 – Last day to Register to Vote
April 25 – First day for early voting by personal appearance. Last day to Apply for Ballot by Mail (*Received, not Postmarked)

Vote Early by Mail

A registered voter is eligible for early voting by mail if the voter meets at least one of the following criteria:

Out of the country

The voter expects to be absent from the City during Early Voting and on election day.

Disability

The voter has an illness or physical condition that prevents the voter from appearing at the polling place on Election Day.

Age

The voter is 65 years of age or older on Election Day.

Confinement in Jail

The voter is confined in jail at the time the application is submitted. Serving a misdemeanor sentence for a term that ends on or after Election Day; pending trial after denial of bail; without bail pending an appeal of a felony conviction; or pending trial or appeal on a bailable offense for which release on bail before Election Day is unlikely.

Voter Registration Information

Qualified Voter

Election Code Sec. 11.001 and 11.002. A person meets the age requirement for voting on the day before his 18th birthday (Sec. 1.016)

  • 18 years of age or older on the day of the election.
  • Citizens of the United States.
  • Not disqualified as mentally incompetent.
  • Not disqualified as a convicted felon.
  • Resident of the state on the day of the election.
  • A registered voter on the day of the election.

Registered voter who meets all other requirements for voting. A registration becomes effective on the 30th day after the day the application is submitted to the registrar or on the date the applicant becomes 18 years old, whichever is later. (Sec. 13.143)

Eligibility to Vote (Election Code Sec. 11.001)

  • Be a qualified voter as defined above.
  • Be a resident of the territory covered by the election for the office on which the person desires to vote.
  • Satisfy all other requirements for voting prescribed by law for particular election.

Acceptable forms of Identification (ID) for voting per Election Code 63.0101:

  • Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS.
  • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS.
  • Texas Concealed Handgun License issued by DPS.
  • United States Military Identification Card containing the person's photograph.
  • United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person's photograph.
  • United States Passport.

In order to vote in any election, the Voter Registration Application must be postmarked no later than 30 days prior to the election. Visit the Secretary of State's website to file a Voter Registration Application online or to change your name or address.
