Emergency Department
The emergency department (ED) is a level IV trauma facility. The emergency department was the first to be designated as a trauma facility in Trauma Service Area P.
Staff
The staff members that serve the community and county are all trauma-trained nurses. The ED is staffed with a physician 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and these physicians have had trauma training as well. These contract physicians work closely with the medical staff of Val Verde Regional Medical Center to provide high-quality care to patients in the ED.
Staffing in the ED is consistent with three nurses per shift. The ED staff works closely with emergency medical services (EMS) while patients are being transported to the facility. There is constant radio and cell phone contact between the nursing staff and the EMS.
