EMS Director...
Dennis Hebner, EMT-P is the EMS Director.

VVRMC EMS is a Hospital-Based E-911 Licensed Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Provider. We are proud to serve the residents and visitors of the City of Del Rio, Val Verde County and the surrounding areas since 1971.

Our Fleet
Six (6) ambulances and one (1) First Response vehicle make up the fleet of response units. All units are Type III (one Type I). Average response time within the city is less than four (4) minutes.

Our Equipment
We boast the latest in equipment including biphasic defibrillation with Zoll monitor/defibrillators, IV pumps, ventilators, electric Stryker cots and stair chairs, bariatric equipment/stretcher, and pediatric specialty equipment.

Our Veteran Staff
VVRMC EMS is made up of a veteran staff with a combined total of over 300 years of experience. Service is available 24 hours per day with state certified EMS personnel. The service employees fifteen (15) EMT-Paramedics, five (5) EMT-Intermediates and four (4) EMT-Basics.

Shifts
Shifts are currently 24 hours from 0700-0700 with full time staff working two shifts per week. Opportunities for overtime are available.

Our Protocols
Our on-site Medical Director, Dr. Terry Lindsey, is proactive with EMS protocols. Our intermediates do IO's, needle chest decompression, give IV meds and Combitubes along with the EMT-I scope of practice. Our paramedics perform TCP, IV med infusions, and needle cricothyrotomy.

Our Training
VVRMC EMS provides initial training in certification courses as well as ACLS, BCLS, PALS, ITLS, NRP and other specialty courses.

EMS Activity
VVRMC EMS responds to over four hundred calls per month, traveling greater than 12,000 miles monthly, in a county with over 3,000 square miles. There is a paramedic on every 911 call with excellent communications throughout the county.

Public Provider Award
In 1989 Val Verde Medical Center Emergency Medical Services received the Texas Department of Health "Public Provider Award". This award honors an organization operated by a local government or agency that assumed a leadership role in EMS by achievement in areas of patient care, public access, medical control, disaster preparedness, public education, and training.

EMS Educator Award
Susie Jechow, LP, received the Texas EMS Educator of 2005 at the Texas EMS Conference. She and her team of qualified instructors have provided over 43 courses with over 300 persons who have obtained certification in EMS. National Registry pass rates are above the state and national levels.
