The EMS Academy provides initial and continuing education courses for the Del Rio community and surrounding areas. It is approved as an Advanced Training Center through the Texas Department of State Health Services program #205. As a CE provider, the academy provides continuing education for EMS and First Responder through TDSHS. The EMS Academy is also a Training Center through the American Heart Association for BCLS (CPR), ACLS, and PALS courses TC #4740.
The academy director is Susie Jechow, BA, NREMT-P, LP recipient of the 2005 EMS Educator Award at the state conference. Ms. Jechow is Regional Faculty for the AHA programs and an advanced coordinator for EMS programs. She is joined by veteran staff of VVRMC EMS and ED to deliver a variety of instructor dynamics all aimed at a similar goal of student learning.
The program boasts NR pass rate well about state average and a clinical / field internship site second to none. Students perform learned skills in the EMS, Emergency Department, Surgery, Intensive Care, Respiratory Care, Women’s Center (Labor & Delivery and Nursery), Pharmacy, and Special Procedures departments.

There will be a short pre-course aptitude test candidates must pass prior to acceptance. Applicants will also be required to write a short essay on why they would like to take the course.
